Birmingham - Mailbox (Average rating: 3.93)

Parking is only a short walk away in the Mailbox car park but very expensive at about £2 an hour! There are other car parks nearby which are cheaper at around £1 an hour!

Additional Comments:  An excellent Nando's for an evening meal. The lighting is particularly impressive and the lively Mailbox Shopping Complex is in one of the most aesthetically pleasing parts of Birminghams. Why not go for a walk down by the canals to walk off your Nando's after?

This visit was good overall although they seemed slightly understaffed. The queue to order our food was rather long but our food did come relatively quickly. I took a friend with me for her first Nando's and she was impressed with the peri-peri chicken and the olives!

The staff were extremely friendly and we were offered complimentary tubs of Perinaise which was a nice touch. We hope Birmingham Mailbox will get involved with the website in the near future!

Additional Comments:  Well it is fair to say that despite wanted to park at the cheaper car-park right next to the Mailbox, the cost only came to £1 each which all in all wasn't too bad!

This Nandos trip took place on a lazy Saturday afternoon for lunch, to break up the day from revision.

News had also spread that one of my friends was working as part of the Nandos team - a great opportunity therefore to check the place out!

The Mailbox branch is a fairly small outfit, which, at an estimate, has perhaps 20 to 25 tables, some inside and even a few outside the front windows (still located within the Mailbox itself).

Not as trendy as the new Broad Street branch, this Nandos might not be as aesthetical, but certainly makes up for it with a HUGE large chips size. When I say big, I mean the portion could have fed a family of four (but here was finished off single handedly by one of the RYN-CEOs, with half an 'extra hot' chicken - a great effort it must be said).

There were a few things I would change. Firstly, there were only one or two front of house employees that I could spot, and on a fairly busy Saturday, I would have had at least one or two more. Food was being left on the counter, and although ours wasn’t cold when it arrived, if it had, it was clear to see why.

Secondly, the place could do with a little more decor. I love going into a Nandos and feeling that Portuguise/South African vibe. This restaurant feels a little too generic and it really wouldn’t take much, as everything else was spot on!

The music was great, and the staff were friendly. I'll be coming back here again soon - hopefully for a more romantic occasion, but don't hold me to that (hia).

Additional Comments:  Parking in the Mailbox itself is steep at £4 for 2 hours but there are other car parks which cost around half the price.

This visit highlighted the staggering difference between a large peri chips and regular with there being almost triple the number in my large portion compared to my friend's regular side. I was not complaning and felt like I would have struggled to eat more for the first time in 2011 once I'd finished all my food. The chicken was good but could have possibly been a tad more flavoursome.

Only other minor problem was a lack of halloumi in my friend's burger which was quickly rectified.

Manager Sam was very friendly and already aware of the website. We look forward to hearing from you!

It is a relatively small branch but that was not a problem on a Saturday lunchtime, we were seated straight away. Overall a good Nando's!

Additional Comments: Impeccable. The staff were happy and cheerful. One member of staff with dreadlocks was so helpful.

Overall impressions - Amazing food, very friendly atmosphere, staff were working their socks off but still were chatty. I've been into pretty much all of the Nandos in town (city centre) and Mailbox is a cut above the rest, its always a cool and more grown up environment, than the others and highly recommend all veteran Nando-ers to visit this one on a weekday just around lunchtime. I dare ANYONE to tell me it isn't the best nandos they've ever tasted. My wife and I love it.

Unique aspects - As already mentioned, the food is topnotch, superb. Staff are funny, approachable and always wish us a sincere goodbye at the end of the meal, something i always feel grateful for. Its in a fantastic location, surrounded by furniture stores (wifes choice) and top top brands, and its always a nice pleasant and calm atmosphere in the Mailbox... and spend alot of money, only wrapped off with a cheeky half chicken ;)

Cinema nearby - Not sure, my usual first stop is bed after filling my gut with chicken or at a push go for a stroll down the canal which is always a nice way to let your food settle.

Parking - Isn't the cheapest, but our dreadlock friend told us about free parking after 6 in certain area's around the mailbox, and if we really wanted to park free, that a bit further afield is a free parking resedential zone. We decided against it, but useful information no doubt.

Overall, spectacular Nandos, love love love love it, but mainly because of the staff and the food, the wait isn't always lightning fast, but we usually are informed about it, and in the past been offered things to tide us over til the food is cooked and we always accept.

WELL DONE AND KEEP UP THE GOOD WORK!!!

Additional Comments: Nando´s not only offers a good service with a great meal, but also beautiful and lively places such as the one at the Mailbox. Its strategic location lets people enjoy tasty chicken after a fun afternoon of shopping or a relaxed and romantic walk near the canals.

From plain to hot spicy, Nando´s offers a wide selection of delightful chicken served with french fries, corn on the cob, garlic bread as well as ratatouille. Moreover, a Caesar salad can be ordered by healthy people enhancing it with Nando's chicken. But Nando´s not only has chicken on its menu, hamburgers, sandwiches, wraps and children menu are available, letting people from all ages enjoy it.Service is acceptable and quite fast. After having ordered your food and having been assigned a table, people can take their cutlery, napkins and sauces by themselves, giving the customers more freedom and making them feel at home.

Also, its refills beverage service makes people enjoy their staying at Nando´s, seeing it as a gift for having had lunch there.

So if you travel and visit Birmingham don´t hesitate to visit Mailbox Nando´s.

Additional Comments: This Nando's is located in the Mailbox complex - which is probably the more "exclusive" of shopping centres within Birmingham (Ab Fab and Harvey Nics and all that) - and so the parking prices are also slightly more expensive than say the Bull Ring or Edgbaston Street (New Street Station is only a few minutes walk away too), but if you are going to one of the bars at the back of the Mailbox anyway (such as Bar Room Bar) then be sure to stop of for a Nando's!

There's a nice little seating area outside the shop front to allow for people watching - and sometimes it's the only place to sit as it can get pretty busy inside. The shop front itself is a little small and the top floor of the Mailbox towards the back (where this Nando's is) isn't lit up very well, so it does seem a little dark inside, which is a shame, as it does seem like there are some nice darker wood carvings dotted about the place, but just too dark to notice!

As it gets busy too, there can sometime be a wait at the till and there's not much room at the tills either, so you can sometimes get a mass of people just gathered around not really in a queue and then even in people's faces while they're trying to eat. It's also a bit similar to the Broad Street branch where some of the tables are very tight together. Still - it just adds to the atmos I suppose!

This was actually the first branch I tried the Wing Roulette a while ago - and they, along with the chicken each time I have been here are always up to a good standard - and there's generally never a long wait. Another good example of a branch that can cope with a high footfall!

Additional Comments: A large group of us arrived and had to sit on the tables outside the restaurant as inside was too busy. This was fine except the waitress didnt arrange the tables for us, or even get us the extra chairs! She seemed VERY unimpressed that we arrived. Once we arranged the tables ourselves we went up to the counter to order where the staff were very friendly and chatty. The table with cutlery etc was full of everything including sauces etc. Inside is very nicely decorated, although a little dark. Staff that served us our food were again very friendly and smiley. Everyone seemed pleased with their meals overall. Although I must say that my halloumi cheese was burnt and a little cold. However the chicken was lovely. We were served quickly considering we were a large group. Thank you.

Additional Comments: The Mailbox is a very sophisticated shopping centre with numerous designer shops, but there are other Nando's in Birmingham with cheaper parking than this. Only choose if you happen to be at the Mailbox!
