7th Street - Marc Joss Review
After sampling three Nando's in Canada, we landed in DC excited to compare American Nando's and headed straight to the very first US Nando's on 7th Street.
Given that we landed at 21:00, we chose the only central Nando's that was open until 23:00 which was a great decision because we were in there until it closed!
The staff were lovely and all the Nandocas wished us congratulations on our honeymoon and were happy to have a chat about RYN and Saskia's food faces!
Manager Hope told me about how busy this restaurant gets and the fact that many celebrity performers use it for their Nando's fix when on tour! We picked a good time as it was quiet and she asked about which menu items are different from UK Nando's. I told her there were quite a few including chicken thigh skewers (served with red peppers and onions), chicken Caesar wrap, thigh and mighty chicken sandwich (with chicken thighs) and she very kindly offered to provide us with a range of options and we should leave it to her. It was wonderful!
The thigh and mighty chicken sandwich was delicious and cut in half, making it easy to eat and reducing the risk of it getting soggy or collapsing. It was pretty spicy too. At US Nando's they do serve mayonnaise in Hellmann's sachets which beats Canada! They also call peri chips 'peri chips' like we do and put 'peri fries' in brackets, a nice touch!
The corn was great and we also really enjoyed the nutty date chicken salad (main course), cucumber and poppy salad, butternut squash and corn salad (both fino sides). The standout option was the thigh and mighty sandwich which I would certainly order again!
Thank you so much to all the staff and we hope to enjoy our other American Nandventures just as much!
