Borehamwood - James RYN Review
Good tip for parking is to park in the Borehamwood retail park which is just behind the Nando's. It's free for up to 3 hours and you can get your shopping done too!
This is the second closest Nando's to my home but I've only visited once (years ago when it first opened) which is quite shocking. I thought the situation needed to be rectified, and I was pleasantly surprised overall.
The area itself isn't fantastic - just a standard high road with a selection of shops (decent retail park behind I suppose). There is a cinema down the road a bit which could make this a nice combination for a night out.
We were greeted by a friendly chap called Neil, who it later turned out has been previously commended in a review for Leeds - The Light branch, where he used to work. He was interested in the website and served me very effeciently at the counter. Turns out that like me, he likes to mix his sauces, but instead of Extra Hot + Mango & Lime, goes for Hot + Lemon & Herb. This made my often confusing order very easy to submit, and he even asked which side of the breast I want each sauce on...fantastic! Rest of the staff seemed Nando's pretty good, though I only interacted with them briefly.
The food came after a standard amount of time and was great. The chicken breast had been expertly prepared due to aforementioned reasons, and the chicken burger was tender and a size that ACTUALLY filled the bun (ridiculous that filling the bun is a novelty really...but that's another story). Chips had lots of peri spice, and rice wasn't stuck together at all. My girlfriend was also very impressed with her breast piece, so we know it wasn't a novelty. Good work.
Decoration may have been a 4/5 when this branch opened, but due to so many refurbishments nationwide lately, it's now looking quite average.
Overall a good competitor for best branch local to me. It'll be hard to choose between here and St Albans next time I go!
