Brentwood - Pompey Ranger Review
Quite a wet drab day when we headed in from the Brentwood artificial ski slope with a minibus full of hungry students. Parking isn't the cheapest but is quite plentiful near the Sainsburies store and cost us 1.70. It was a walk over to the store which is on the main street in Brentwood next to Mcdonalds.
The store looked quite bland from the outside which hid the interior well. Upon entry there is a section of double height ceiling which allowed the upstairs windows to fall down and illuminate the store through chandeliers. There was a form down the left wall with tables in front, booths down the right hand wall and free standing tables in the middle. White ribbed plaster on the walls surrounds a multitude of art and it was light and airy with a light wood ceiling. The counter and beverage area was on the right near the back and the beverage and sauce area in front was clean and well appointed with a wooden backing wall separating it from the seating area.
We had a little wait to get tables but by separating out we were all quickly seated. They were quite fuzzy about where we could put our chairs due to apparent "health and safety" fortunately I live in a area where the recession has resulted in the long overdue culling of health and safety bombalifes and ridiculous rules.
Service was quite fast and the size of the sides portions was very pleasing and resulted in some of us getting doggy bags eventually, as the staff seemed to be run off their feet so took longer to bring things like working salt pots and paper bags. The chicken was cooked more than I would like but not to the point I would send it back.
The toilet was at the back of the store and up the stairs and were clean and pleasant enough.
All in I like this store mostly due to the atmosphere and bright airy atmosphere and the niggles wouldn't prevent me from returning.
