I went there with some friends to celebrate victory after a Battle of the Bands. I had an extra hot butterfly chicken with chips, and for some reason it wasn't as hot as I expected (however, many of my friends found it TOO hot).
The artwork on the menus was very nice and the general atmosphere was warm and welcoming, but being a peak time (around 8-ish) most of the tables were full and all nine of us had to squeeze in a booth built for six. Fortunately there were plenty of cutlery and glasses (despite the dinner rush) and the refillable drinks stand never had too big a queue.
The Nando's in Colchester is on Head Street, which is at the top end of Colchester's High Street, making it an ideal place to eat after shopping, going to the nearby Odeon (cinema), attending a show at the Mercury Theatre, or going to a pub (nearest one is The Fox and the Fiddler).
Colchester Nando's is, unfortunately for some, a fairly long distance from Essex University. The easiest solution is to catch the #62 bus, which stops at various places around the University and stops on Head Street, where Nando's is. The #62 also runs from North Hill Train Station to High Street, which involves a two-minute walk to reach Nando's. Any other outlying settlement - such as Wivenhoe or Abberton - can be reached using whichever bus service(s) go to Colchester Town.
Although I don't often go to Nando's (it averages to be about four times a year), when I do go I find it to be a real treat and I always want to come back again.
