Upon entering restaurant we noticed an unfamiliar tense atmosphere. Staff who are usually friendly and happy presented solemn and, although polite, stressed. I asked where everyone was? And server replied people had been sent home already. We regularly come as a large party after church and tonight's number totalled 17 people. The staff member took our orders and we sat ourselves in the restaurant as per usual practice. After a time a new duty the manager approached our table and advised that as we were such a large number he would have to call out the meals that were prepared, and could we all be quiet so that he did not have to repeat himself. He commenced doing so until all meals were distributed. Drinks were then brought out but one of our party did not receive her drink as ordered. The manager returned with the drink and allowed us to enjoy our meal time together. As we were departing the venue, the manager stated that we still owed for the last drink, that amounted to ZAR19. I advised that I had thought the drink had been paid for when we made our order that exceeded ZAR1,000, and stated that as we had a large group of international visitors, we would be returning every night for 1 week. The manager became quite indignant that we owed ZAR19 and demanded we pay it immediately. I told him that as I did not have any cash, I would prefer to make up the difference on the following night and the manager maintained his stance advising that we had to pay the amount now. Therefore I paid the trivial amount via debit card and informed him that we would no longer support his establishment in the future, to which he simply shrugged his shoulders in a rude and indignant manner. As my party departed, the regular staff waved at me as they usually do, saying, "See you later Pastor". To which I replied thanks for your wonderful help and service over the years, but we will no longer be back due to the rude attitude of the new manager.
Thanks Nandos, I will return as a customer when I am residing back in Australia in future years, but I will not support your King Williams Town facility while the current manager is in place.
Sincerely,
Ps Steve Acres
