Kings Cross - Pompey Ranger Review
This store is a stone's throw from the train station of the same name and as such in the centre of the city and I would assume parking prohibitively expensive though there were 2 spaces on the road in front which could benefit takeaway collection. It stretches across 4 shop fronts and they had chairs and tables ont the pavement which I think is very hopeful in the middle of December!
The inside was like a maze with a seating area across the front then large stairs to lower level with a few booths and more seating, a beverage/ sauce station and the toilets. There is then a large triangle in the middle of the store made by the Bar which has good display of bottles, the serving hatch and kitchen and finally by the other side of the stairwell. This provides ample space to queue which didn't seem a problem as they had 4 tills and had more than one open. Then at the back of the store another seating area opens up like a fan, at first i thought it was a corridor next to the beverage machines but when there I realised it contained a mass of tables and another beverage dispenser.
Lots of artwork on the walls and large pots, had a nice feel to the store with high ceilings and plenty of space between tables which gives spacious element and is handy should you still have luggage from your train journey, but in the size you do sort of loose the connection to the staff as its different person each step of service but they were all friendly.
Chicken size was good as was the chip portion, garlic bread was spot on and the mash whilst not the largest portion was fresh. The chicken was well cooked and succulent though could have done with more sauce, a problem I rectified myself.
Toilets downstairs were mundane and whilst I often like the small red dot tiles in other stores they felt a little oppressive in this one.
A good store which I would be glad to use again if ever in the neighbourhood and sure as hell beats Train food.
