Kingsbury - Ryan Review
So onto the second Nando's of the night and this meant a little drive to Kingsbury... Certainly not as nice a place as Walthamstow that's for sure!
This Nando's is located on the main traffic island in Kingsbury - next door to a Tesco Express and an Aldi, where you can easily park for a little bit for free. I fancied stretching my legs, so I parked in a Morrisons about half a mile walk away. Kingsbury tube station is pretty much over the road from Nando's and just a couple minutes walk gets you to Fryent Country Park.
As with Walthamstow, this Nando's is currently offering free chicken when you purchase six bottles of sauce for £11.95... only they are offering a free whole chicken! Good value indeed.
This is definitely an older Nando's and in places it shows. There are two tables immediately to your right as you enter where the till also is. All of the seating is to the left of the entrance and towards the back left of the restaurant. There are further bench/tables chairs behind the sauce/drinks station. A short bench seat is against the back left wall, but generally the seating is all tables/chairs - about 30 in total.
In the windows there are some old style dark town wicker cones for shades, but otherwise it is all spotlights. On the back left wall there is a selection of paintings of different shapes and sizes, with some more on the wall behind the drinks/sauce station but overall this is distinctly average... except... The floor was littered with bits of chicken and chips on one of the front two tables where I was sat and across the whole restaurant - so much so that I slipped a little, twice, on the food on the floor when trying to sit down... and the toilets absolutely stank of stale urine. This wasn't somebody had missed the urinal a bit - this was a puddle of wee which must have been sat there for some time... A mark is definitely lost here...
I was arriving just after 9:00pm and was surprised to see how busy it was - particularly with takeaway orders. Staff were run off their feet with all the takeaway orders, I've never seen quite so many in such a short space of time. Even with this the food came in 11 minutes.
Half chicken, rice, chips and ratatouille. The chicken had plenty of meat on it and it was cooked well enough - not too dry but not very juicy or saucy. The chip portion was also generous, but all of were a bit soggy again. The rice portion was average but cold and clumped together... and the ratatouille was very disappointing - only a couple of forkfuls portion size (no exaggeration) and cold. Just below average here.
