Sloane Square - James RYN Review
My third day in South Africa this trip, and my first Nando's shockingly! Luckily it was a beautiful day with 28 degree sunshine, so we sat outside. The restaurant is located in an outdoor shopping complex, and the decoration is average South African, meaning a little bit tired, but clean and tidy.
We had the option to be served at the till or the table, and opted for the till to save a bit of time. The Nandoca was very friendly, and we had soon ordered a wrap each. Mine was of course Extra-Hot with some extra cheese and pineapple. The price was one of the best parts of the meal - only £5 for the aforementioned wrap, one side, and a soft drink, which is less than half the price of the UK.
The food came after about 15 minutes, and I was shocked to find out they don't serve mayonnaise at the table down here! The only option was to buy a whole tub of perinaise (the type from the supermarkets), which wasn't going to be acceptable. Food itself was average - the chip portion was small, but healthily covered in peri-spice (which tastes slightly better down here, and it redder in colour), and the wrap was tasty but badly put together, with cheese at the top, then pineapple in the middle, and finally very spicy chicken at the bottom.
Given I have over 200 South African Nando's left to visit I probably won't be coming back, but still a nice lunch ex-peri-peri-ence!
