Southwark Arches - Marc Joss Review
3 months had passed since the team's last Nando's together and it was time to end the drought and tick off a new central London branch on a pleasant Sunday evening alongside some Italian friends, Sophie and new Nando's fan, Maria.
This branch is tucked away under a bridge and the characteristic arches can still be seen in some parts of the restaurant. As you walk in, there is a large open area by the tills straight ahead of you as well as to the right with some perky stools presumably for Nandoers waiting for takeaways. The seating area on the left is divided into three lanes which have a variety of stools and chaired seating on the outside ones and booths wrapped up in a unique nest like structure down the middle. We were lucky enough to arrive just as a group was leaving one of the nests (the others were all taken) and so the six of us plonked ourselves there. There was no queue to order but we were warned that it would take a while for our whole chicken to arrive as a new batch was needed. We decided to get a starter to feed our peri-peri peckishness and the food arrived soon enough. The chicken was good although slightly bloody and James' half needed some more sauce which ended up making it too spicy for him to handle (what an amateur!).
The staff were great and one Nandoca was even sporting a Santa costume to get in the festive spirit on a rather relaxed evening!
Parking is available for free on a single yellow on Scoresby Street (the back side of the restaurant) otherwise you cannot miss the big vertical Nando's sign on the bridge if you walk out Southwark tube. It's only a 10 minute walk to Waterloo and the various attractions in that area if you fancy combining Nando's with a pub or iMax cinema visit! Definitely recommended.
