The Nando's on Cornwall Avenue was my very first experience of peri peri chicken outside of the UK, and it was a good one.
We parked just around the corner, less than half a minute away.
Inside, the restaurant was rather small, but wasn't hugely busy, and there was enough space for our group of 5.
Differences on the menu included jacket potatoes, different pricing for leg and breast, and generally less options.
After the initial language barrier where I confused a poor girl asking for a side of chips (sorry, peri peri FRIES), I sat down, and the food came out just a couple of minutes later.
The portion sizes of the regular meals put every UK Nando's to shame.
The quarter chicken breast portion was almost grotesquely large, the skin-on FRIES were almost cascading from the plate, and the mound of spiced rice was huge. No silly little olive dishes with the sides in over here!
I'm glad to report it was also very filling, and very tasty.
One good touch was that a jug of local beer from the Granville Island brewery was free when you bought 12 wings.
We bought a lot of wings, and stayed after or main meal to enjoy by far the hottest food I've ever had at Nando's with a couple more jugs of beer.
I have no problems whatsoever with my first Canadian Nando's experience, and I think our restaurants have a lot to learn from them.
