Waterloo - Ryan Review
This Nando's is located in the modern Sidings development within/next to/under (whatever) Waterloo station. The main residents of The Sidings are Brewdog and Grind Coffee. Brewdog is probably the biggest Brewdog in the UK with skittles lanes, a two-storey slide and loads and loads of seating. Both Grind and Brewdog are catered to the city 'work from a cool cafe type place' office workers and Nando's is tagging on the back of this and hoping the busy London commuter who isn't 'working from a cafe place' maybe takes a short detour from Waterloo station to nosh down on some chicken.
Given it's location, you are best visiting here by public transport given it's within Waterloo tube station and a few minutes walk from Waterloo East train station. The Southbank with the awful London Eye and the wonderful National Theatre are just two of the many attractions very close to Waterloo station. Park here at your peril (at Waterloo station) but expect to pay eye-watering amounts for parking: 1hr £9.20, 2hrs £11.20, 6hrs £20.50, 12hrs £26.00, 24hrs £30.00 with Night Rate £12.00 (6pm – 6am) and Weekend £15.50 (Motorcycles £4.50).
Arrived here just after 11:30am opening on a Wednesday and was surprised to see nearly a dozen tables in use already. It's certainly one of the larger Nando's in the UK. A larger glass frontage and entrance from both the street and inside the Sidings shows of the size of this Nando's. A big C shape with lots of booths throughout able to seat many groups of people. Bright and colourful, large wooden discs suspended from the ceiling with lights hanging from, neon Barci in the window, hand dryers over the sink in the toilet (finally) - and a large outdoor seating area. Given the hoardings opposite, it doesn't actually feel like a bad place to be sat outside in London.
Staff were great. Checking on all customers frequently throughout their meals (I think Londoners would probably think it was too much). Friendly and hospitable - like talking to a Midlander or Northerner.
I went for the chicken breast burger as was claiming a free yellow reward - and had a side of chips with it. The burger was great. A decent size chicken breast, succulent and juicy with lots of sauce. Seemed smaller than it actually was because the tomato slice was so big. Decent sized portion of chips which were hot and crispy - and the food came in just under 10 minutes.
