Never was a Nandos fix more needed than my most recent trip to Ashford. Chicken cheque in hand (spoils from my last not-so-great experience), we hit the restaurant just after 2pm, as the lunchtime crowd was leaving.

Again we were asked where to sit, and this time I opted for right in the hotseat, where I could see the action in the kitchen.

The challenge for this trip was to try something new (again). after my standard half (moist, tender and dripping with that sweet peri peri lusciousness) plus 2 sides (corn on the cob and really great rice), I dove head first into the dessert menu. Hubby and I split a chocolate cheesecake and the gooey caramel cheesecake with a galeo (Portuguese Latte).

So firstly - I'm REALLY fussy with my coffee. Which is why my husband always orders one and I'll try his before deciding if I'll have one. It was creamy perfection. Step 2, the cheesecakes...

They were melt in the mouth. I thought the chocolate was good until I tried the gooey caramel and near wet myself. Possibly the closest I'll get to a diabetic coma this year (I nearly inhaled the thing in one mouthful), but it was so good and I keep telling myself that the metabolistic properties of the Peri Peri cancelled out all the calories of the dessert.

In an effort to justify that train of thought, I asked our waitress for the calories of the cheesecakes. They don't keep them at the restaurant, which I think is a big no-no. She did offer that the Carrot cake was the highest in calories (interesting, I would have guessed it was a healthier choice), but suggested we check the website when we got home. I did, and promptly whisked myself to the gym for some damage control.

Chocolate Cheesecake: 733 Calories
Gooey Caramel Cheesecake: 702 Calories

Ouch.

But worth it? Yesterday I would have said yes. The whole meal was over 1200 calories which is around what I eat per day. Today I'm not so sure. Am aching from killing myself in the gym to compensate, but strangely I have a serious craving for cheesecake. Go figure!
