Basildon - Mayflower - Ryan Review
Stopped into this Nando's on my way back home. It's easily found as the Mayflower is signposted off the A127, but you can only get to it heading Westbound - and it's the same turn off you'd use for Festival Leisure (where another Nando's is) - one to get to by car. On the retail park are your standard large chain shops and eateries such as Sports Direct, Next Homebase, KFC, McDonald's etc... Hundreds of free parking spaces for a 3 hour max stay.
Arrived here around 1:30pm and lots of people seemed to be having an Xmas shopping break as it was rammed with a 20 minute wait for table, but the food still came in just over five minutes. I went for another Peri-Berry Burger and this one was also cooked very well, but it was really messy. The chicken was cooked well and was a good size but it was covered with extra sauce, so it was a knife and fork jobby. The chip portion was an average size this time but were cooked nicely.
Being a brand new restaurant it wasn't as decorated as I was expecting. Three walls were made up of windows and the ceiling was one big brown piece of what seemed to be corrugated cardboard or honeycomb... nice pattern but it made it a bit dull. There's plenty a seating choices, with the pick being three large round booths clad in yellow leather. Toilets were at the back and while clean, were really rather plain - grey walls and grey sinks. Pretty underwhelming as new Nando's go.
Staff were pleasant enough but doing as expected.
