This Nando's is located in Chelmsford town centre in the old Grays Brewery Yard, which is within the main shopping area. There's plenty of well sign-posted parking and I ended parking at the Meadows Short Stay (Surface) parking, which also has a multi-storey on it. These car parks charge a day rate between 7:30am-8pm of £1/1hr, £1.80/2hr, £2.60/3hrs - but if you're arriving after 8pm, a flat overnight rate of £2.50. They are just a few minutes walk to all the restaurants and bars etc. Chelmsford train station is also only half a mile walk from Nando's. Odeon Cinema is also in this main shoppoing area.

This Nando's is located over two floors and there is a till point on each floor. On this occasion, only a third of downstairs was occupied, so it was pretty quiet. The decor and layout is similar on both floors and there's a good mixture of booth and tables/chairs and bench/chairs seating. As soon as you enter the branch, on your right there is a wall with wooden carvings on - which is better viewed on the top floor and the wall on the other ended is normal uncovered bricks. Downstairs, full length windows are on the wall between these two - and above the windows (for upstairs seating) there are dozens of canvas paintings to brighten up the place. The lighting across both floors is very bright and mainly upside metal troughs, with further spotlights, throughout the branch. There really is plenty of room to queue, to sit and to accommodate all party sizes - in a nice bright, colourful branch. Toilets were on the third floor and were modern and very clean.

Seeing as only downstairs was a third full, there was no wait to order and the food came in under 5 minutes - and it was delicious! A very good sized portion of chips, rice and coleslaw and a full chicken cooked perfectly, caked in sauce and very hot, moist white meat on a very good sized chicken. Very good stuff indeed.

The staff were also very polite and making some general chit chat with most people, so easily doing more than just the minimum. All in all, a smashing set of chicken and chips!
