Gurney Plaza - Anonymous Review

I currently study in the US, and one of my "must-do's" when I return to Penang is an annual visit to a Nando's. I've been to this Nando's more than 10 times in the past years but I've only ever went during lunchtime.

On this day, I experienced my first ever Nando's dinner service to my great disappointment and despair. The waiters and waitresses were extremely rude and ignored us. Service was not only slow, but it seemed to me that the kitchen was in absolute disarray and disorganization. They served my father and I our meals before our drinks even arrived, and with no cutlery for us to dine with.

Then, the painstakingly long wait begins. My mother, sister and her boyfriend ordered chicken tenders, which never came after an hour. By then, my father and I had finished our plates. When their meals finally arrived, the chicken tenders tasted absolutely dreadful. Dry, hard, awful pieces of rubber bullets, served with microwaved rice that was solid and dry like individual grains of long desert sand. We had to return the rice and had them replaced with mashed potatoes which were bland and tasteless, but at least it was edible.

When our final order of Chicken Livers and Portuguese Roll arrived, we saw some hope, as the chicken livers tasted great as expected. The huge disappointment came when we broke the roll in half to find that it was stone cold in the center, almost as if it was haphazardly reheated in the oven. When my father took it to the kitchen to complain, the line cook touched the inside of the roll with his bare hands and then had the audacity to offer to reheat and re-serve us the aforementioned roll. Only with some convincing did they decide to do what any sane restaurant would do, and serve us a new roll that was properly heated.

In conclusion, poor service from staff that are the epitome of impudence, immensely disorganized kitchen that is in dire need of a proper expediter, sub-par food, and to call the overall dining experience unpleasant, would be an understatement and a heinous miscarriage of justice in describing this appalling dinner that my family had to endure.

They need a complete change in staff, and better kitchen organization, otherwise I shan't return to this execrable establishment. Seriously, do not come to this Nando's if you're planning on getting stress-free food. You'll be lucky if you even get your food at all!!
